Lieutenant Josh Kushel

Josh Kushel has an illustrious career spanning over two decades in law enforcement. His journey commenced in the State of New Jersey before he joined the Lauderhill Police Department in Broward County, Florida. Since 2006, he has been an integral part of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, displaying his expertise across various roles within the agency. Throughout his distinguished entire career, Josh has demonstrated unparalleled versatility, serving in multifaceted capacities including Corrections, Road Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Community Policing, Field/PTO Training Officer, Agent – Street Crimes/Vice Unit, Violent Crime Suppression Unit, and MAGTF (Multi Agency Gang Task Force). Rising through the ranks, he assumed supervisory responsibilities, earning promotions to the positions of Sergeant in 2017 and Lieutenant in 2023. During his tenure supervising the Street Crimes/Vice Unit for almost five years, Josh’s leadership facilitated remarkable achievements, including 3,126 arrests, the seizure of 581 firearms, execution of 391 search warrants, recovery of 224 stolen vehicles, and the confiscation of over one million dollars. Tasked with overseeing challenging areas such as Riviera Beach, West Palm Beach, Mangonia Park, and Lake Park, Florida, Josh’s dedication to public safety has been unwavering. Currently serving as a county night Watch Commander, Lieutenant Kushel has garnered numerous accolades throughout his career, including multiple Sergeant of the Year awards, Deputy of the Year awards, Deputy of the Month awards, Distinguished Service awards, along with multiple commendations which some include the Combat Cross Medal, Combat Action Medal, and Valor/Heroism Award. A staunch advocate for continuous education and training, Josh holds an impressive academic record, including an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s Degree with honors in Business specializing in Human Resource Management. Additionally, he has graduated prestigious law enforcement programs such as the Southern Police Institute 149th Administrative Officers Course, Louisville, Kentucky where he was awarded Dean’s Scholar and the Kentucky Colonel Award, Monmouth County Law and Public Safety Program Class #7 where he was awarded Valedictorian, and the FBI Leeda Executive Class #285 where he obtained the Trilogy award. With an extensive background in high-risk scenarios including traffic stops, search warrants, critical incidents which includes officer involved shootings, and undercover operations, Josh is committed to sharing his wealth of experience to empower both new recruits and seasoned professionals in law enforcement. His mission is to equip officers with the skills and confidence necessary to navigate the challenges of real-life situations, ensuring their readiness to confront the perils inherent in the field.
